Speaking from my experience with my Corolla, their cars are great. Any owner of a Corolla, Yaris or Hilux will tell you the same. From their older models like the Supra and Celica to the Auris and Avensis or in the USA the Camry, Toyota make cars their owners enjoy. With the Prius they are also thinking of those wanting to do their bit for the environment.
The warning is to do with Toyota’s ability to provide replacement parts for your car. It outlines the problems I've had trying to get a genuine part from Toyota.
My Corolla was first registered in 2004 and now three years later Toyota seems unable to supply a genuine Toyota part for the air conditioning.
When the part was ordered the Toyota dealer came back and reported there was a problem. The part for my three year old Toyota Corolla had been discontinued.
This was confirmed on the phone by Toyota Customer Relations.
I then received a letter attached to an email. The letter was very nice and told me all my problems with my Corolla were due to a big “misunderstanding”. The OEM part was now ordered and would be with my dealer within the week.
Unfortunately the content of this letter was, to put it politely without questioning integrity, incorrect, and my problems with Toyota continued.
A phone call from Toyota Customer Relations weeks after the part should have been delivered informed me the part “had not”, and “had never” been on order.
It turns out Toyota GB don’t know how much one of their genuine parts cost. This is the reason for not being able to supply the part. Now this raises the question how many other genuine Toyota parts are Toyota themselves unable to supply?
I next received a phone call from the author of the “now ordered” letter. This lady tells me she was shocked when she found out I hadn’t received the part. She also confirmed Toyota GB doesn’t know the cost of one of their own OEM parts! However just for me they had bypassed the system and ordered the part. She informed me that anyone else needing this particular oem part, would face the trouble I had faced.
Before she said goodbye she did tell me that the part for my Toyota Corolla was unfortunately on back order with no expected delivery date. So Toyota in this case don't maintain stock of a Genuine Toyota Part for a three year old vehicle
I have now received a call 4th October 2007 with a new date of arrival for this genuine Toyota part (see side-bar).
